![]() This year my favorite teacher down the hall and I switch a handful of students to better differentiate our groups. I like to use earning choice time as a whole-class-incentive to keep our transitions quick throughout the day (to earn more time to play) and to help students follow the multi-step end of day procedures efficiently. They can choose from things like Legos, blocks, house, games, dress-up, and the rest of the goodies I have stashed away. What is choice time? I stash a set of 4-5 choice activities behind the folder icon on our agenda that are like a surprise each day. I wanted to update this on the schedule I used last school year, just so you can see a different mix of placing things. If a student successfully follows through with the steps and the alarm for math hasn’t gone off on my cell phone yet then they have a few precious moments to have choice time. Here are TONS of posts with enter ideas for the whole year called Center Saturday. Here is a post about how I set up centers. And by the end of the week, all my students can play this whole time because their work is completed. My students play for at least 15 minutes a day. I run 6 work centers a week and stagger their work with play. Once we work on our math topic, we dive into centers. Rather, I know my students will get extra hands and support if we teach math at this time. Again, this isn’t because math is LESS important. We move on to math at the end of the day. Lastly, in our Kindergarten Daily Schedule, we get to Math and centers. Here are science ideas and here are social studies ideas. I also try my best to integrate experiments and art into this time. We tie in our storytime to this topic, introduce it at calendar time, and then expand on the topic here. Our unit includes science and social studies. Science and Social Studies: Kindergarten Daily Schedule ![]() Here is some ideas for calendar time too. This time is so precious to me since I am engaging all my learnersĪLL at once. We build on our abilities and expand our knowledge all year. We start the year barely being able to sit and listen. Calendar Time: Kindergarten Daily Schedule Here is more info and links to sight word stations. Since all these stations are hands-on and independent, they are easy to run without extra hands. This is a time I allot to just work on sight words. This time works so much better for story time than diving into sight word stations. ![]() After an early lunch and too short recess, I am on my own for a good hour. That is our whole morning in a Kindergarten daily schedule. Here is a ton of information about this! Sight Word Stations: Kindergarten Daily Schedule Most of this is done in small groups and differentiation is a huge element in making this time a success. It sounds crazy but when my class size gets larger, I have to give the students more room to spread out! You can read more about that here. Then we easily transition into Daily 5 and literacy stations. Literacy Stations: Kindergarten Daily Schedule Here is a link to more phonics activities and ideas. We involve video, music, technology, books, motions, sensory activities, and lots of hands-on, interactive activities. Phonics Time: Kindergarten Daily Schedule If they come from the computer lab, we all wiggle for a few minutes. Since we have Specials like music, PE, or computer lab, I know I will most likely get students who have moved and wiggled for 45 minutes. The first learning segment in the morning is my prime time with my students. Since I do not need an assistant to do calendar time, I choose to do that structured time when I don’t have a TA. But, I do not have her in my classroom all day. ![]() First, I have a TA (teaching assistant) in my classroom in the morning. You will probably notice that I don’t have a morning meeting or calendar time first thing in the am. Then I make adjustments based on their services and needs. I check out the services any and all my students will be receiving each year. My schedule doesn’t always look exactly like this.
